Abstract
A very important analysis in the petroleum industry is the analyses and characterization of low boiling petroleum fractions with a carbon number of C1-C12. These fractions are either obtained by the direct distillation of petroleum crudes (for example, “virgin naphthas”) or as a result of catalytic processes from several high boiling feedstock conversions. Some of these light products may be further processed to increase octane (for example, conversion of virgin naphthas into “reformate”) or reduce the sulfur levels to meet regulatory specifications. The resulting final products are the main sources used as blending components in the production of commercial automotive gasolines sold at the pumps.
