The Case of Lublin Region (CE Poland)

Abstract

This paper is a review of the five projects of wetland restoration in CE Poland, initiated 10 years ago. According to our experience restoration of water-peatbog ecosystems is an effective method of improving the purity of water and biological diversity of the landscape. Positive effects of restoration are obtained most quickly, when the period of ecological degradation of the habitat is short and the scale of changes small. When the scale of environment degradation is great, the result of restoration is uncertain. In effect we have ecological systems much different from those existing prior to degradation. Abundant natural surroundings enhance positive effects of the restoration of the transformed object.
