Abstract

The objective of this paper is to present introductory results of tests, which could be utilized to develop a new laboratory method for the densification efficiency estimation in flocculated suspension. This technique is based on beta radiation scattering measurements. It utilizes the dependence of the intensity of beta radiation backscattered by flocs cumulated in sediment on floc sizes, which determine the densification efficiency. The results of tests also indicated that beta backscattering measurements could be useful in setting up optimal concentrations of flocculants in suspensions.
