Abstract

The photodynamic diagnosis is a new technique for early detection of flat urothelial lesions or cancer of the bladder. After intravesical application of 5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA), a fluorescence cystoscopy for photodetection of tiny tumors in the bladder can be made. We investigated whether it is easier to recognize neoplasias or dysplasias of the bladder by fluorescence cystoscopy than it is to recognize them by conventional white light cystoscopy.
