Abstract
Two important factors aid while troubleshooting any problem are a knowledge of how things are supposed to work and a plan of action to fix the problem. Many System Administrators have mental or written lists that are used when a problem occurs. Developing this list takes a long time and the revision process for this list should be continuous. For some problems, like hung printers, the process to fix the problem is basically the same one that could have been developed and used with SunOS 3.2. New operating systems bring new problems and new error messages, so there is always something new to learn.
