Determination of Velocity and Attenuation Using Broadband Pulse Technique

  • Chapter
Acoustical Imaging

Part of the book series: Acoustical Imaging ((ACIM,volume 23))

Abstract

Velocity and attenuation of ultrasound are the two most important properties of materials used in ultrasonic applications. Many techniques (Sachse and Pao, 1978; Kline, 1984; Bamber, 1986; Zeqiri, 1988) have been developed for measuring velocity and attenuation of longitudinal waves at frequencies ranging from 1 to 10 MHz. Among them, two methods are popular. One is the so-called discrete frequency method; the other is the broadband pulse technique or the ultrasonic spectroscopy method.
