Abstract
The nesting ecology of birds is understood in relation to proximate and ultimate factors. This chapter examines the nesting time of the Painted Stork across India and explores the significance of the monsoon in triggering off its nesting cycle. Also examined in this chapter are courtship patterns of the Painted Stork, nest building, nesting behavior, and particularly carrying fresh leafy twigs for nest lining. The chapter ends with an examination of habitat selection patterns, nest mortalities, and the role of predation and other agents.
