Abstract

Juliana is a 55-year-old woman who lives in a small village in El Salvador near the Honduran border, a 7-h bus ride from the nearest city. Despite only having a fourth-grade education and surviving on around 1USD per day, she has become a leader among women in her community, advising them about childbirth, hygiene, and nutrition.
