Abstract
The microscope is without question the most important instrument available to the biologist. The physiological function of proteins cannot be addressed without taking their localisation in a living cell and their interaction with other proteins into account. To answer these questions the microscope is an invaluable tool. http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/ covers microscopic techniques in much more detail than possible here.
