The Refracting Telescope: A Brief History

  • Neil English
Part of the Patrick Moore's Practical Astronomy Series book series (PATRICKMOORE)

The history of the refracting telescope is an extraordinarily long, rich, and complex one. Indeed, it was beyond the scope of this book to recount all the contributions made by the many individuals that shaped the long and distinguished history of the refracting telescope. Truth be told, this book could have been dedicated to this end alone! What follows is an overview of the key players that helped shape the evolution of the refractor over four centuries of history. Those wishing to dig a little deeper are encouraged to consult some of the reference texts listed at the back of the book.
