Generally, though not always, financial considerations dictate that an amateur's telescope is a good deal smaller than he or she would wish. Also, it may not be sited in the best place to have access to clear, dark, untroubled skies. Even those who disport themselves with powerful but mobile instruments often incur journeys to suitable sites that involve marathons of logistical arrangement.
