Electronic Submission Process
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been in the process of replacing the paper grant application submission process with an electronic submission process since the year 2005, and, as of January, 2009, has completed a substantial portion of that transition. The shift to electronic submission is part of a larger process known as Electronic Research Administration (eRA) at NIH. eRA provides information technology solutions and support for the full life cycle of grants administration functions for the NIH, Operating Divisions of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and other federal agencies. This chapter provides a guide to the key steps of the electronic submission process.
