Throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, ISAS continued its development of Japanese scientific space programs. Although, in terms of budgets and rocket-lifting power, it was the poorer cousin of NASDA, some of its missions were spectacular and attracted more public interest. These headline-grabbing missions are reviewed first, before looking at the range of domestic applications missions closer to Earth.
