Abstract
When we think of cities on the Moon and Mars, outposts on asteroids and the moons of the planets, what we see in our mind’s eye are structures. These structures are unique to their environments, just as are structures on Earth. And when people started to imagine the possibility of settling these final frontiers what they envisioned were structures and cities. Just as cities on Earth are centers of commerce and art, and structures house all of our creative endeavors, cities and structures are places where we live and work but also are creative ends of their own merit. Structures are a reflection of our civilization. They are engineered as a culmination of science and aesthetics, serving many functions for people. On Earth they house us and are a place for our belongings. On the Moon, they also keep us alive.
