Abstract

Telomere shortening has been linked to aging and disease. On the other hand, recent experimental data point to epigenetics as a fundamental process in telomere function. How both aspects are connected and how they impact on organismal fitness will be the subject of intense research in the coming years. This chapter reviews different aspects of telomere biology and discusses their implications in the aging process.
