Abstract

An intranet is a web-based system that enables the sharing of information and resources on a local level. A company intranet, while it feels to the user as if it is part of the Web, contains information that is not accessible to the outside world. The intranet does not have to be based in one physical location, however; an excellent use is to keep employees working at different branches of one company informed and able to collaborate and share knowledge. It can also be a way to ensure that employees who work from home are kept in touch with the rest of the company and able to feel part of the organization despite being located remotely.
