Advanced Database Features

  • Chris Auld

In this chapter we will examine some of the more advanced concepts of database design for the Web. Some of the topics we will look at in some depth, others would require very platform-specific details, which are beyond the scope of this book. The goal of this chapter is not to teach you all you need to know about these topics but rather to give you an overview of some of the more advanced features of RDBMSs and where you might use them in your projects. My recommendation is that if you need to do a significant amount of work with any of these features, you should buy a book that deals specifically with your database platform of choice and then combine the technical instructions from that book with the more theoretical and practical web-based ideas from this chapter.
