Database Maintenance

  • Thearon Willis

In a production environment, your DBA is usually responsible for any and all database maintenance. This includes such tasks as backing up your database and ensuring the data and indexes are reorganized at frequent intervals to maintain optimal performance of your database. They also perform other tasks such as adding new indexes when appropriate to further optimize performance, and archiving old data. Finally, your DBA is usually also responsible for replicating data and schema changes from your development/test environments to the production environment.
