Abstract

Beginning with Oracle 8, the database has had the ability not only to deal with simple predefined data types such as NUMBER, DATE, and VARCHAR2, but also with data types created by the developer. These new data types allow the developer to model their application using object-oriented concepts but still take advantage of the relational world. Oracle refers to it as the object-relational model.
