Triggers are blocks of code that execute, or fire, automatically when certain events happen. Although triggers are very much like other procedures in the database, the user cannot call them directly. Oracle handles the execution of the appropriate trigger or triggers when the event requires it. The user is given no indication that Oracle is executing triggers, unless of course the trigger causes an error that the developer has not handled properly. In that case the event that caused the trigger to fire will fail.
