Programming The Address Book

  • John Connell

Abstract

Ready to working in this chapter? Good! We are going to build on everything we have learned so far and structure these things into an application. In addition, we are going to learn a little bit about some of the handy tools that are available in VB 6.0. Specifically, we will be looking at the following controls:
  • Tool bar

  • Tree view

  • List view

  • Status bar

  • Calendar

  • Tab strip

  • Masked edit

  • Image list

It is difficult to find any really good examples of how to use these powerful tools. Most VB books either just mention that they exist, or skip over them completely. For that reason many VB programmers don’t use most of them in their programs. However, I’m sure that once you’ve learned about them you will see that they can be incorporated usefully into your future database projects. The more aware we are of all the VB tools available to us, the more flexible and adaptable we’ll be in our approach to future programming challenges. Not only will we include these sophisticated controls, but we will also be learning how to create a pop-up menu. When the user right-clicks over a call description, a pop up menu permits the user to either add or delete another call.
