I was a very picky eater as a child, so when my nontraditional housewife mom found something that I actually liked to eat, she would ‘milk’ it. If little Normita liked to eat baked chicken with mashed potatoes, little Normita would eat baked chicken with mashed potatoes for dinner three weeks straight, until one day little Normita would wake up as a baked chicken — wings, sauce, and all. Mom didn’t have the patience to fuss with making me eat my vegetables, but made priorities out of having me do my homework, go to school, comb my hair, and stop running around the house with scissors. This was the point in my life where I learned how to obsess over particular things. Now, the things that I obsess over have come to influence and inspire me.
