I’ve read that work that we do beginning with photos isn’t ‘art’. I’ve also read that people didn’t consider Norman Rockwell to be an artist, either, because he was ‘just an illustrator’. Is it not art because we begin with a photo? Is a painting not really art if the painter uses paints that she buys, on a canvas that she didn’t weave herself? All of our materials have a source. The medium of digital art often begins with photos. And of course it is art!
