This section elaborates on how capacity management is designed in accordance with gathered capacity requirements. Emphasis has been given on how to select the right capacity approach by choosing the best workload placement mechanism infrastructure, defining capacity management architecture and components, and cost optimization measures. This ensures maximum resource utilization and optimum performance in a cost-justifiable manner. One of the key success factors in capacity management is establishing overall capacity architecture. This chapter describes the architecture in various layers that fulfill business- and performance-related requirements from a capacity management perspective. It is essential for any new service that designs for capacity to also take into account service level management, security requirements, availability requirements, application scalability requirements, etc.
