Abstract

Once capacity requirements are gathered and finalized, the capacity management process ensures that the capacity plan is implemented as drafted in the plan document. This phase of capacity management is focused on implementation of capacity architecture and design. This chapter emphasizes implementing techniques like scaling, clustering, ballooning, and load balancing, which play vital roles in ensuring that capacity levels support specified service levels. All these techniques are specific to virtual environments and provide flexibility in managing capacity. This phase of capacity management is called iterative capacity management. Figure 10-1 includes steps like implementing capacity techniques, monitoring capacity/performance metrics, analyzing capacity data, and capacity tuning. This chapter exclusively covers implementation of capacity techniques in cloud based/virtualized environments.
