Making Video Games

  • Rex van der Spuy

How can you take what you know about canvas, sprites, and collision detection and put them together to make a real game? This chapter will show you how. You’re going to learn how to make a game called Alien Armada, shown in Figure 9-1 . In this game, you will try to shoot down the invading aliens before they reach the bottom of the screen. It’s just about the simplest video game you can make that contains all the elements for making most kinds of action arcade games. I’ll walk you through each step of the development process, and at the end of the chapter you’ll have a solid model for building video games of all kinds. If you know how to make this game, making a more complex game is just a matter of adding more detail.
