Development Environment Setup

  • Erik Swenson

Here you’ll learn about the different options, configurations, and tools that you can use to build out your visual design. This chapter does not cover the step-by-step instructions on how to install SharePoint but it will point you in the right direction on what features to enable and what things you can do without. In most cases, you will just need a basic installation or SharePoint on a development box that you can customize as much as you want without any restrictions. You will also want to have the ability to save and retract any major changes that you have made to the server. This is where virtualization comes in handy. If you have ever used VMware workstation there is a concept of “Snapshots” that you can easily create of the virtual server. This allows you to go back to previous image snapshots and start fresh or go back to a previously saved safe state.
