Abstract

David Kuttler currently consults on the use of technology driven innovation for business growth, IT governance, technology life cycle management and aligning IT to different business models in complex organizations. Prior to this consulting role, he was the SVP & CIO at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Before Vertex, he was the world wide VP of technology and architecture at Johnson & Johnson. Early in his career, he worked within financial services and technology organizations, the latter including IBM, where he started in the development organization, becoming a technology leader for the insurance industry solution team as part of the marketing organization. He has a BS in Psychology, and a master’s in Information Systems Management.

David has worked for a variety of different companies each with their own business models. This experience has given him the ability to apply organization and technology solutions to real world situations. He has accumulated realistic experience about what’s available, how things work, how different companies think and do things and how they work with technology, shaping what is needed to deliver the best results.

He defines the CTO as a core partner to the CIO, helping establish and market the IT organizational strategy, finding and fixing operational gaps, and looking for innovation opportunities. He sees the CTO as a developer, operator, and/or partner with others for the strategic platforms which become the core foundation of all IT execution.
