Choosing AppFabric

Abstract

When Microsoft first introduced developers to Microsoft Server AppFabric in the early months of 2008, many of those developers who tried out the AppFabric Community Technology Preview (CTP) bits noted a striking resemblance between aspects of the AppFabric UI and core capabilities of Microsoft BizTalk Server. The reason for this: Microsoft looked at BizTalk Server and the Windows Application Server 2008 platform, and it determined that BizTalk Server, if built into an Application Server platform, would help to address some gaps in Microsoft’s application platform. Microsoft Server AppFabric will provide business-application developers with new capabilities directly out-of-the-box—and without having to invest in either building complex custom solutions or buying third-party products.
