Many viable robot brains are built from discrete semiconductors, interface chips, and/or logic chips. Sandwich, Roundabout, and most BEAM robots are classic examples of robots that operate without microcontrollers. These robots are simple enough to reproduce using off-the-shelf parts and don’t require programming or special development tools.
