Performing SPARQL Queries and Understanding Reasoning


You started to use the SPARQL query language in Chapters 4 and 5. Now you’ll dig deeper to learn how queries are performed and how reasoning (also known as inferencing) helps us to combine RDF data stores that use different ontologies and to discover implicit relationships in data that are not explicitly stated. Before you look at more practical example queries, I will define some terms that you need to be familiar with and provide a more formal definition of SPARQL query syntax. If you followed along with the SPARQL examples in Chapters 4 and 5, you gained the practical experience necessary to better understand the more formal approach in this chapter.
