IBM produces and sells a number of related products designed to deploy to the WebSphere Application Server environment. Most of these are just standard Java Enterprise Edition (JavaEE) applications, but some of the more WAS-centric products hook and extend its functionality in addition to shipping JavaEE or Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) applications. This chapter looks briefly at these extension products: WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus (WESB), WebSphere Process Server, and WebSphere Portal Server. The examination will be brief since this book is about WAS and not about these products. Also, at the time of the writing of this book, the version 7 of these products had not been released; although we can see the architectural direction from the 6.1 versions.
