One of the challenges you’ll face when designing iFTS-enabled applications is making them as simple as possible for your end users to access the full power of full-text search. While it’s a relatively simple matter to perform a basic FREETEXT or CONTAINS query for user-supplied search terms or phrases, Web-based search engines have had a huge impact on the level of user sophistication. Users of search applications now demand features above and beyond basic term or phrase searches, including hit highlighting and access to advanced options through a simple interface. In this chapter, we’ll discuss some methods to make your IFTS-enabled client applications simple yet powerful.
