We’ve said previously that governance is essentially the creation and management of the culture, the policies, procedures, and controls that help ensure a company will meet its business goals. Good governance requires active stewardship of all of an organization’s investments. This stewardship is led by senior executives but is often managed further down in the organization. Project management techniques have traditionally been used to track these investments, and most companies have become skilled at managing and measuring project costs and schedules. However, Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) brings an additional level of sophistication to project management by tracking investments across portfolios of projects.
