Having journeyed through the preceding 10 chapters, you’ll have a good understanding that Open Office.org can accomplish a lot. And when you consider that this software doesn’t cost a thing, it’s even more remarkable. However, there are some things that OpenOffice.org can’t do. But thanks to the way the software is designed and maintained (i.e., it is free, in two ways: it doesn’t cost anything, and anyone can access the source code), users and developers have been able to create additions to the package that bring new features or improve existing ones. You’ve used some of these OpenOffice.org Extensions previously to add cool templates to the software, add random text to a page, and install new dictionaries. The examples cited in this chapter are a mixture of macros, templates, and mini-applets that either extend the user interface or provide new ways of adding content to a document.
