Taking Flash Widgets to the Next Level

Abstract

It is now time to find out about some other important aspects of widget development. The most essential of these is making your widget interactive. There are a few successful widgets that have no interaction, but for the most part it is a good idea to let your users get involved in some way. Allowing your widget to be configurable is also a good idea because this adds personalization, allowing users to end up with slight differences and making them feel like your widget is more their own. You can also drive your widget with XML, separating some of the data from the Flash movie, which opens up many possibilities. You will find out how to incorporate each of these things with the robot example we created in the previous chapter.
