Upsizing existing Access databases continues to be a major headache for developers moving to SQL Server. As we have seen, Access continues to make strides towards SQL Server, and this version is no exception. It is now easier than ever to work directly with SQL Server from Access, and it can be expected that this process will improve. Access 2 introduced the Upsizing wizard, and Access 2000 included it for the first time as a menu item (but an additional fix had to be downloaded for those using it to upsize to SQL Server 2000). In this chapter, we’ll look at the options for upsizing, what to do before upsizing, problems you may face, and which options to choose.
