SQL Server Structure

SQL Server versus Access 2002
  • Susan Sales Harkins
  • Martin W. P. Reid

This chapter is an introduction to SQL Server, highlighting some of the main differences between it and MS Access 2002. We will introduce several server topics including T-SQL and the new (to SQL Server 2000) features provided by SQL Server Query Analyzer. A full discussion of these topics is beyond a single chapter, and dozens of books are available, including the following published by Apress Code Centric: T-SQL Programming with Stored Procedures and Triggers and Advanced Transact-SQL for SQL Server 2000. All references to SQL Server in this and preceding chapters refer to SQL Server 2000.
