This chapter highlights those features of Oracle9i that go beyond the realm of relational structure—namely, in the area of object extensions in Oracle9i. The primary object extensions exclusive to Oracle9i are mainly the introduction of object type inheritance, dynamic method dispatch, type evolution, and the introduction of SQLJ object types. User-defined constructors were introduced in Oracle9i Release 2. User-defined object types, along with methods, object tables, object-relational tables, and object views, were first introduced in Oracle8.
