Abstract

Bioinformatics is currently one of the hottest fields in scientific computing, and the need for skillful bioinformaticists is only expected to grow in the coming years. As a result of the amazing success of genomics projects like the Human Genome Project and the recent interest in the field of proteomics, the biological sciences have been amassing tremendous amounts of data. The enormity of this data, being much too large to analyze by hand, has given rise to a union between biological sciences and computer-based data analysis, which in turn has led to the birth of the field of bioinformatics.
