This chapter looks at the Gang-of-Four Observer design pattern from a multithreaded perspective. Observer is one of the more useful design patterns if your goal is to loosen coupling relationships between classes. It is essential, really, for building truly reusable components. It turns out that, as usual, problems arise in implementing Observer that wouldn’t exist were threads not on the scene, and this chapter examines solutions to those problems.
