Web Development Tools and Accessibility

  • Paul Bohman

It may be comforting to web developers to hear that they are not the only ones at fault for all of the accessibility problems on the Internet. The burden of accessibility is shared between web developers, those who design user agents, those who design assistive technologies, those who devise guidelines and standards (for example, the W3C, governments), and those who design authoring tools (for example, HTML editors). This chapter examines the current state of accessibility in modern authoring tools.
