Abstract
This Chapter Examines network communication using the.NET Framework and compares it with the support provided by Java. It starts with the familiar Socket interface using both Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP). Then it explores.NET Remoting, which provides similar capabilities to Java’s Remote Method Invocation (RMI). Finally, it examines the extensive support for Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) Web Services provided by ASP.NET and Visual Studio.NET.
