One of the most revolutionary concepts in recent publishing history is the e-book (also known as EBook, eBook, and e-Book). For years, reading books on a screen rather than by turning pages has eluded us, primarily because there was nothing “booklike” about reading a document on a screen—no real concept of pages, certainly nothing like turning pages, and as for indexes and tables of contents, they weren’t useful either. E-books and e-book readers are changing that. The increased sophistication of the readers, the capability to create content using Acrobat, and the constantly improving security systems all contribute to e-books becoming a viable content-distribution method.
