Abstract

The .NET Framework provides two considerably different types of services applications to the developer: the Windows service, which I cover in this chapter, and the Web service, which I cover in the next chapter. Although both are called services, they are very different. Windows services are stand-alone installed applications, while, as you will see, Web services provide a service via a network to another application.
