Abstract

In the preceding chapters, you learned a lot about how to plan and design a relational database to be used as the database tier within a Java EE application. The underlying database is an important part of most applications. Considering the underlying database as a black box used just to store and retrieve information limits your ability to take full advantage of the database features that could help you build a more efficient solution.
