Doug Lea was a man on a mission. Having noticed a severe lack of collections support in the early Java releases, in the fall of 1995, Doug released a “standard” collections library. If you don’t know Doug, he is, according to his latest book (Concurrent Programming in Java, Addison-Wesley, 2000), “one of the foremost experts on object-oriented technology and software reuse. He has been doing collaborative research with Sun labs for more than five years. Lea is Professor of Computer Science at SUNY Oswego, Co-director of the Software Engineering Lab at the NewYork Center for Advanced Technology in Computer Applications, and Adjunct Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Syracuse University.” Doug also serves on the Java Community Process (JCP) Executive Committee for J2SE/J2EE.
