Abstract

As detailed in the previous chapter, assemblies are the basic unit of deployment in the.NET universe. Tools such as Visual Studio.NET have integrated Object Browsers that allow you to examine the internal types of referenced assemblies. Furthermore, external tools such as ILDasm.exe allow you to peek into the underlying IL code, type metadata, and assembly manifest. In addition to the design-time investigation of.NET assemblies, you are also able to programmatically obtain this same information using the types defined within the System.Reflection namespace.
