The concept of a class is the basic building block of object-oriented programming. A class is an abstract data type (ADT) and it can have partial or full implementation. Partially implemented classes (abstract classes) cannot be instantiated. Instances of a fully implemented class are called objects. A class defines the state (data members) and behavior (member functions) of its objects.
