The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) was in despair—every time the sites were deployed or updated, some huge complication downed one or more of the production sites for long periods of time. The business folks were coming down hard on him—they calculated exactly how much money the company lost each time the sites went down. The CTO asked me to do a quick Software Configuration Management (SCM)-related evaluation of the development group.
